Migrate from Asana to PlanMagnet

Bring your cross-functional projects into a workspace built for agile delivery too.

Asana is one of the most approachable work-management platforms for marketing, ops, and cross-functional teams — strong on timelines, goals, and workflow automation, but not purpose-built for agile sprints, with no native burndown, velocity, or sprint reporting.

Why teams on Asana move

Grounded in what is actually shipped today — not a wish list.

Native agile execution — boards, sprints, and story points — is shipped in PlanMagnet (burndown charting is on the way); Asana has no native sprints or velocity.

A built-in feedback inbox with voting and priority scoring replaces Asana's basic intake forms.

Delivery-ops depth ships in the same workspace — portfolios, programs, a risk register, quality gates, budgets/expenses, and time tracking — extending what Asana Portfolios cover today.

Governance ships from PlanMagnet's Free tier — RBAC, single sign-on and SCIM directory sync, and audit history — where Asana gates SAML/SCIM, the admin console, and data export/deletion behind its Enterprise plan.

How the migration works

The same guided process for every supported tool, including Asana.

  1. 1

    Connect your account

The guided importer authenticates against your existing workspace and reads your projects and issues — no CSV wrangling to start.

  2. 2

    Map fields, statuses, and workflows

Field, status, and workflow mapping runs into the PlanMagnet model before anything moves, so issue types, custom fields, and board states land somewhere sensible.

  3. 3

Pull in issues, comments, and history

Issue, comment, attachment, and history migration runs where feasible, so context is not left behind in the old tool.

  4. 4

    Run a parallel validation

A parallel-run validation lets both systems operate side by side so your team can confirm the migration before anyone fully cuts over.

  5. 5

Cut over — and keep an exit door open

A reversible cutover plan and team handover with runbooks close out the move; the same sync can export data back out if you ever need to.

Asana migration FAQ

Asana has no native sprints — what happens to our cadence?

PlanMagnet ships native boards and sprints with story points and tracked velocity, so a team moving off Asana's task lists gets a real agile execution layer it did not have before (burndown charting is still on the roadmap).

Do our Asana Portfolios carry over?

Yes — portfolio-level grouping across projects is a shipped, built-in PlanMagnet capability, alongside programs, a risk register, quality gates, budgets/expenses, and time tracking in the same workspace.

Can we export back to Asana later?

Yes. The same built-in sync that pulls data in from Asana also supports exporting back out, so the switch is a reversible, low-risk change.

What about Asana Goals?

Asana Goals do not have a shipped one-to-one equivalent yet — PlanMagnet's OKR/objectives framework is on the roadmap, not available today. Plan to keep tracking goals in Asana (or a spreadsheet) until it ships.

Migrating from somewhere else?

One agile workspace instead of Asana plus a separate tracker.

Create a PlanMagnet workspace and bring your Asana data with you.
